50 High Wage Jobs in Target Industry

(Miami, FL) Aug. 4, 2016 – EMD Serono, the healthcare business of Merck KGaA Darmstadt, Germany, has relocated its Latin American headquarters from Sao Paulo to Miami. This move will add at least 50 new jobs, at an average annual salary of $200,000, and $1 million in new capital investment to the local economy within the next three years.

The above-average salaries, nearly four times the local average, are due to the highly skilled and specialized nature of researching and developing biopharmaceutical products. EMD Serono specializes in developing therapies with groundbreaking potential to mitigate illnesses including cancer and has a strong market position in neurology, endocrinology and reproductive health.

“Life Sciences is one of the six target industries in the One Community One Goal strategic economic plan because it provides excellent high paying jobs and career path for our residents,” The Beacon Council President & CEO Larry K. Williams said.”Miami-Dade’s entrepreneurial climate has nurtured the life science industry with companies like Beckman Coulter, BD Biosciences, and Noven Pharmaceuticals.”

The Beacon Council assisted the company with key data on local educational assets, workforce, cost-of-living, wages and information about other major pharmaceutical companies with Latin American headquarters in Miami-Dade.

“When we were considering where to move our Latin American Headquarters, we were very impressed with the diversity, tax friendly atmosphere and the active life sciences community in Miami-Dade County,” said Fernando Nino Andrade, Director LatAm Controlling, EMD Serono. “This was a positive move for our company and it will allow us to operate in a new environment that has easy access to all markets in Latin America.”

“With the diversity of our area and local universities educating future resources in these fields, we are preparing for substantial growth in this sector,” Williams said.
